On 17 May 2025, TEDxEdUHK, an independently organised TEDx event operated under license from TED, hosted ‘Tapestry of Metamorphosis: Interlacing the Fabric of Transformation’ at Tai Po campus. The event, attended by 64 engaged participants, was a profound exploration of the theme ‘Dramatic Exits and Entries’, which illuminated the pivotal moments where one chapter of life ends and another begins. These transitions were examined through a lens of transformation, weaving together individual stories, ground-breaking research, and turning Hong Kong’s unique landscape into a rich and intricate tapestry.
Dr April Liu, Acting Head of the Centre for Language at The Education University of Hong Kong, delivered both the opening and closing remarks for the event. In her remarks, she shared insights into the university’s current initiatives in language education and its commitment to fostering transformative learning experiences. Her closing remarks reflected on the event’s themes, emphasising the importance of embracing changes and innovations in both education and personal growth. Dr Liu stressed that "today is not the end of our journey, it's an entry point," noting EdUHK's ongoing research into ecological language competencies.
Meanwhile, six speakers presented on diverse topics: Dr Kristen Murray drew parallels between Hamlet and modern transformative struggles; Ms Janet Shih explored the balance between ambition and identity; Dr Claudia Wong discussed how to push past self-imposed boundaries and embrace growth in unexpected ways; Dr Nora Hussin examined AI in language education; Mr Harrison Li shared how adversity can be a powerful catalyst for self-discovery and resilience; and Ms Susanna Chung spoke on the power of intentional choices.
The intimate setting fostered meaningful engagement, with interactive discussions during intermission allowing attendees to connect the speakers' insights with their own experiences.
