The Department of Chinese Language Studies of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the Advanced Workshop on International Baccalaureate (IB) Concepts and Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) from 15 to 29 July 2018. The workshop introduced the latest theories and practices in teaching Chinese language in IB schools via lectures, seminars and cultural visits.
The speakers, comprising IB experts, IB principal examiners, principals of international schools and senior IB educators, conducted in-depth discussions on topics ranging from IB learner profiles, Chinese teaching under the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme framework to teaching methodology and assessment methods. The teacher participants came from different countries and regions, such as Mainland China, Taiwan, Spain and Hong Kong, and included both junior teachers and senior teachers with more than 10 years’ teaching experience. Five colleagues from different EdUHK departments also participated in the workshop.
The workshop established a platform for experts and practitioners in the field of IB education to exchange ideas and experience. EdUHK was the second university in Asia to obtain the IB Educator Certificate, allowing it to offer IB-recognised programmes. EdUHK has successfully organised several IB conferences, and this workshop further demonstrates the University’s academic strengths in the field of IB education.
Workshop participants joined a cultural visit to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
Workshop participants experienced the production of traditional paper-cut art at Jao Tsung-I Academy.
Teacher participants came from Mainland China, Taiwan, Spain and Hong Kong, and colleagues from different EdUHK departments also participated in the workshop.
