EdUHK FHM Signs MoU with Almaty Management University to Expand Academic Collaboration in Kazakhstan

The Faculty of Humanities (FHM) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held an online Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with Almaty Management University (ALMAU) on 21 July 2026. The MoU was signed by Professor Pamela Pui Wan Leung, Acting Dean of FHM, and Dr Sholpan Tazabek, Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships at ALMAU. The signing ceremony marked another step in strengthening FHM’s academic network and engagement in Kazakhstan.

Professor Pamela Pui Wan Leung, Acting Dean of FHM, and Professor Lixun Wang, Associate Dean (International Engagement), attended the signing ceremony on behalf of FHM. Professor Mette Hjort, Chair Professor of Film and Media in the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, also joined online and briefly introduced the background to the collaboration.

ALMAU was represented by Dr Sholpan Tazabek, Vice-Rector for Global Partnerships; Ms Aliya Akpayeva, Director of the International Office; Dr Aizhan Sapargaliyeva, Dean of the School of Transformative Humanities; Dr Assel Khamza, Director of the Creative Industries Center and a research faculty member at ALMAU; and Ms Diana Ashimova, Vice-Dean of the Media and Film School.

Building on the formal partnership, both institutions will explore further opportunities for collaboration with a view to fostering long-term academic exchange and mutual development. 

In recent years, FHM has been actively expanding its collaborative network in Kazakhstan through academic exchanges and joint initiatives, promoting Belt and Road educational cooperation, and strengthening academic and cultural ties in the humanities between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.
