Building Dreams from Scratch: A Transformative Experience

To be honest, the reason for choosing Chinese language education was that I wanted a stable job that would allow me to take care of my family. This may not have been a grand starting point, but it is a sincere one.

Before going to university, I knew almost nothing about ‘campus life’. In secondary school, I felt out of place no matter which event I joined. I never imagined I would one day become a leader in university life. But the atmosphere at EdUHK changed me.

The professors here patiently guided us, helping me transform from being afraid to speak up to being eager to explore. This warm and supportive environment gave me the courage to step out of my comfort zone. From joining flag-raising training courses to giving anti-scam lectures at primary schools, I was no longer just a ‘participant’, I learned how to take responsibility and how to cooperate with others in the process.

The real turning point came when I launched a campus art project called ‘The Dream Balloon’. From brainstorming themes and purchasing supplies, to designing a workshop on how to guide other schoolmates in their creations, almost every step was a completely new experience for me. During this process, I truly felt the satisfaction of creating something from nothing. What’s even more precious were the new friends I’d made along the way. They were like-minded people who worked towards the same goal, which gave me a sense of belonging I had never experienced before.

Looking back now, I realise that education is not just a stable career — it is also a way to create opportunities, allowing students who were once as lost as I was to find their own stage to shine. From feeling lost to feeling fulfilled, I’m truly glad I took this step and I look forward to continuing to write my own education story here.
