Samuel Getnet Abate has teaching and research experiences in Ethiopia. He has conducted independent and team-based institutional research and published a number of articles in peer-reviewed international journals in the areas of adult education, teacher attitude, and teacher collaboration. He has contributed as a peer reviewer for some international reputable journals. He has also worked as a Coordinator of Research and Publication Office of the College of Education, University of Gondar. Currently he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Policy and Leadership at the Faculty of Education and Human Development, EdUHK. His research focuses on teacher collaboration.

I obtained a Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Hong Kong. After graduation, I worked as a Research Assistant I at the Education University of Hong Kong, where I engaged in diverse research-related activities that honed my research skills. These invaluable experiences fueled my passion for neuroscience, particularly in investigating the brain mechanisms underlying various cognitive functions (e.g., executive function). In addition to my academic pursuits, I enjoy practising Chinese calligraphy as a great way to unwind and find peace. I also love listening to pure music and exploring new destinations through traveling.

Xeniya Belova is a PhD student at the Education University of Hong Kong. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Teaching English from the Eurasian National University in Astana, and her Master's Degree in Multilingual Education from Nazarbayev University in Astana.

Prior to entering EduHK, Xeniya worked as an administrator at Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education.

Xeniya is passionate about research and her research project, which explores communication in multilingual and multicultural education environments in Kazakhstan and Hong Kong. Among non-research interests, she enjoys reading, learning foreign languages, traveling and painting.

Wening Cahyawulan is a PhD student at the Department of Special Education and Counselling. She graduated from the State University of Jakarta, Indonesia, majoring in Guidance and Counselling for her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. Wening is interested in career development and is now focusing her research on a specific population, teachers. She has several publications, mostly describing career development and intervention for adolescents and teachers, and has also worked as a journal editor, reviewer, and association member on similar topics. Apart from this academic life, Wening enjoys watching movies.

CAI Qiuyun is currently an M.Phil. student in the ECE Department. She received her master’s degree in Chinese Linguistics and Language Acquisition at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and her bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature at Sun Yat-sen University. She worked as a research assistant at the CUHK and the City University of Hong Kong from 2019 to 2022 on a number of research projects in the early language development of monolingual and multilingual children, first language acquisition, and parent-child input-outcome relationships.

She enjoys traveling, hiking, and watching TV series.

Melissa is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Early Childhood Education. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at City University of Hong Kong. After graduation, she secured a position as a research assistant at The Education University of Hong Kong. Being a research assistant had inspired her to take up the challenge of a Ph.D. Melissa’s research interests are the social-cognitive and social-emotional development in young children. Chan has extensive experience in both clinical and academic settings, having worked in various hospitals and universities. He has served as an assistant to occupational therapists and clinical psychologists, contributing to numerous patient care initiatives. Currently, Chan is a research assistant working on topics related to sleep, emotional and cognitive functioning, suicidality, and mental health among adolescents and young adults. His primary research interest lies in understanding and improving the mental health of the younger generation. Chan is dedicated to developing innovative solutions to enhance their well-being in the ever-changing cyber age.

I graduated from the University of Oxford with a Master’s degree in Education (Higher Education) and completed my Bachelor’s degree at IOE, University College London. Throughout my previous higher education journey, I have been especially eager to explore the well-being of social and ethnic minority students in higher education. This passion led me to work with various United Nations organizations, such as UNDP, UNFPA, and UNHCR. I am also a co-research assistant in the UCL BAME awarding gap project, where I conducted research on the well-being of ethnic minority students in UK higher education, providing actionable policy suggestions for enhancing inclusivity.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I enjoy learning languages and have reached an intermediate level in Spanish.

Eunice graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Humanities in 2012 and a Master of Arts in Education, Major in Development Education from the University of Asia and the Pacific (Philippines) in 2014. She also obtained a Licentiate in Philosophy, Major in Ethics and Anthropology from the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce (Italy) in June 2021.

Prior to her entering EdUHK, Eunice was as a full-time Instructor of the School of Education and Human Development of the University of Asia and the Pacific. She is interested in doing further research in the field of education using her philosophical background.

I graduated from Northeast Normal University with a Master’s degree in Psychology. My Master’s thesis explored morphemic ambiguity as a significant factor to investigate morpho-semantic processing in Chinese word recognition. Currently, I am working on visual statistical learning from a developmental perspective in pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology. My research focuses on exploring neural mechanisms associated with Chinese orthographic statistical learning by using event-related potentials (ERPs). Octavio Flores is a student from Mexico. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Teaching Languages from the University of Colima and a Masters in the same field from the University of Nice, France. He has rich experience as a language teacher in different countries over the past ten years, and his most recent position as an EFL professor has nourished his interest for International Education and the development of cross-cultural awareness in teacher education. Zhen received her BA in Hispanic Studies at Boston College and her MA in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. Witnessing and experiencing the educational realities in the U.S., Latin America, and different regions in China has been a great asset to her and fueled her passion for educational research.

Prior to becoming a Ph.D. student, Zhen experienced teaching in an education company, a public middle school, and a university's English faculty. Working with diverse student groups broadened her perspectives on learning and teaching.

Hi! My name is Hinako Kojima. I’m a first-year PhD student at the Education University of Hong Kong, fully funded by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). I hold a First-Class BSocSc degree in Psychology & Neuroscience from the University of Hong Kong, and an MSc degree in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London. My primary research interest is the intricate relationship between sleep and mental health. In my doctoral studies, I plan to focus on the role of napping for individuals experiencing subclinical insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

In my personal life, besides napping and reading, I love exploring museums, art galleries, and aquariums around the world.

Elaine is from Hong Kong. She graduated with First-Class Honours and distinction, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees from The Education University of Hong Kong. Prior to pursuing her doctoral studies, she held positions as a Research Assistant on several research projects and served for eight years as a kindergarten teacher in Hong Kong.

She began piano lessons and studied IT during her teenage years. This early exposure sparked her fascination with integrating computational thinking into music learning. She enjoys spending her spare time on music composition, singing, painting, website design, console gaming, and traveling.

Crystal Li has a broad range of research experiences. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from The Education University of Hong Kong and an MSc degree from Lingnan University. Before pursuing her doctoral studies, she worked as a Research Assistant at EdUHK. Her research focuses on mental health, resilience, and the impact of traumatic experiences among vulnerable populations. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals on public mental health, PTSD, and psychological well-being. Crystal is also a professional dancer specialising in jazz and hip-hop, and she is passionate about reading and traveling.

Before receiving her PhD offer from EdUHK, she spent two years at the State Key Laboratory of Beijing Normal University studying the neural mechanisms of language, number sense, and cognitive ability in students. She then spent over a year at the Chinese Academy of Sciences researching the development and neural mechanisms of cognitive function in patients. His research, rooted in philosophical and sociological foundations, focuses on citizenship education, particularly teachers’ perceptions, conceptions, and practices of good citizenship.

Wang Jinhua graduated from University of Science and Technology of China with a Master’s degree in English Translation. She has taught in education institutions as an IELTS teacher, served as the teaching secretary in School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, and played the role of university counsellor in Jiaxing University prior to joining the Faculty of Education and Human Development, The Education University of Hong Kong as a PhD student. Working in different workplaces with numerous diverse student groups has inspired her to further explore in the education domain.

She loves contemporary dance, Ballet and Chinese classical dancing, and has been awarded associate by the International Sports Dance Association and got the bronze medal in the 2023 RDGP International Ballet Competition.

WANG Shuang received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Shanghai International Studies University. She developed a great interest in cultural psychology when she studied for her MA majoring in intercultural communication. She has tried to explore how distal and proximal cultural factors can affect people’s responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is now pursuing her Ph.D. in psychology at EdUHK.

WEI Yu is a Ph.D. student in C&I. She received her BA in English at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication and her MSc in TESOL at The University of Edinburgh.

Before entering EdUHK, Yu worked as a lecturer in English at a mainland China university for eight years. Her teaching experience inspired her to explore university students’ English learning in out-of-class contexts.

Min Thein Win holds a Master's in Higher Education from The University of Hong Kong and a BA in Communication Arts from Bangkok University. His master's thesis focused on Faculty members' perceptions of Myanmar's National Education Strategic Plan (2016-2021). Currently a PhD student at EdUHK, he focuses on ethnic and minority higher education reform. As Vice Principal (Academic) at Mon National College, he is a passionate leader ensuring equal access to education for disadvantaged students. Over a decade ago, he founded the Mehm Kan Kyi Education Foundation, providing access and career development to marginalized learners. As an advocacy and policy engagement advisor at Myanmar Education Consortium, he supports ethnic education providers with effective strategies and partnerships.

Miss WU Xiaoyuan graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) from East China Normal University and Nanjing Normal University respectively. Now she will continue the ECE research at the Education University of Hong Kong. She believes that effective early childhood education is able to bring children a sweet and fruitful childhood, which makes it a discipline worthy for Xiaoyuan to pursue lifelong learning.

Her research interest mainly lies in family influences and parental involvement, social behavior and adjustment, and the psychological development of children aged 2-4 in the unique transition period from home or nursery to preschool education. Apart from her academic life, she loves music, traveling, and photography.

She received her Bachelor’s degree from Sichuan International Studies University in Mainland China, majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. I am Fiona, and I completed my master’s degree in Child and Family Education from EdUhk in 2022. Prior to that, I obtained an M.Ed. in Subject Teaching from Anhui Normal University and dedecated ten years to university administration. Currently, I am furthering my academic journey by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in ECE.

My research interest lies in tracing the developmental trajectories of preschool teachers’ social-emotional competence from their undergraduate journey to their first steps as teachers and exploring the longitudinal relationships between teachers’ social-emotional competence and teacher-/student- outcomes. Outside of academia, I am passionate about traveling and engaging in sports.

I'm Jing ZHANG from mainland China. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology from Nanjing University and later completed my Master's degree in Educational Psychology at Beijing Normal University, where I focused on the cultivation and measurement of creativity in children and adolescents. After that, I worked in the online education industry for five years, primarily dedicated to the research and development of graphical programming products and teacher training. My main research method is quantitative research.

Outside of my professional life, I'm an enthusiastic swimmer and billiards player. I also enjoy exploring local shops and cultural events with friends, and I welcome everyone to join me in discovering the interesting city of Hong Kong.

Kai is from Shanghai, China. He has graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Master’s degree in MSc Educational Studies. Prior to joining the EdUHK, he worked as a principal in an educational institution in China. His job responsibility included ensuring a safe learning environment where each child can receive prompt and appropriate academic support.

I am a PhD student in the ECE department. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Zhengzhou University, majoring in Education and minoring in Psychology, and my two master’s degrees are in Principles of Education from Northeast Normal University and Early Childhood Education from The Education University of Hong Kong. Before pursuing my PhD, I have been a kindergarten teacher for two years and a college teacher for three years.

My learning and working experience have taught me that early childhood is a critical period for child’s character formation and growth. This is the major reason why I want to study about child development and explore the relationship between child development and family factors. She is currently researching on the interpersonal processes relevant to health and well-being in a close relationship in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Psychology.
