Fostering Student Leadership and Visualizing Social Empathy at the 7th Hong Kong Projection Mapping Festival

2025-06-23

Among six primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, student groups shared their project overview and projection mapping products at the 7th Hong Kong Projection Mapping Festival (PMF7) held in the public space opposite DX design hub in Sham Shui Po, hosted by ICT-in-Physical Education Foundation Limited and co-organized by Home Affairs Department, the Department of Education Policy and Leadership at the Education University of Hong Kong and other NGOs at 1-7 pm on 3 May 2025.

Dr. Percy Kwok acted as the chief research consultant of PMF7.

Using online surveys, semi-structured interviews and observation, Dr. Percy Kwok (Department of Education Policy and Leadership, EdUHK) and Dr. Wendy Huang (Department of Psychology, EdUHK) investigated how participating students exhibited their resilient leadership and visualized their social empathy in their innovative design of projection mapping projects by synthesizing art and sport technologies, facing aging, resource adversities, and environmental pollution problems. Students presented their six product lines, namely, chip-timing & AI sports, projection mappings, XR (filming & drama) products, AI V signer, AI creative (media & design visualization), and STEM forum before the prize-awarding ceremony. The underlying educational principles were self-directed and game-based learning, increasing and sustaining motivation, strengthening self-esteem, and in-time innovative design thinking. With the theme of inclusion and building together in a vibrant community, participating students practiced social-business-school collaborations, digital transformation in sports and arts, and experienced cross-industry sharing and two-way knowledge transfer.
