Online School Improvement Institute 2020

2020-07-14

The IELC has just completed a very successful School Improvement Institute (SII) on building outstanding teams during crises. We ran an all on-line seminar-style course, or what we called ‘Moving Zoom’. The 33 participants from 11 nationalities lead and teach in international schools in Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the US, China, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Angola and Thailand, making time arrangements somewhat complicated, but doable.  Participant feedback indicates that the course team’s experimentation with new ways to make online learning more effective and ‘human’ paid off.  One participant (an international school leader) commented on the different approach to learning: “Zoom worked well - we were surprised. Two of our members joined the SII last Summer and this was not that different in terms of the structure. So this was good to see how similar it can be run online”. Another leader supported this saying, “Interactions with people in the course rather than just an icon on the page was really beneficial, particularly for new members to the IELC”.  Insights gleaned from student feedback will be applied to all IELC courses in order to improve the student experience and learning, and take the increasingly well-known programme for international leaders and teachers to the next level.
