BSc(EM) Students Celebrate Dragon Boat Festival with Lok Sin Village, Fostering Cultural Heritage and Community Spirit

2026-07-16

On 13 June 2026, students from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Executive Management Programme (BSc(EM)) went to Lok Sin Village to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with a series of culturally rich activities. Actively involved in designing and organizing the event, students fostered a shared sense of cultural identity and strengthened community cohesion, while providing villagers with memorable and meaningful experiences.

During the event, students arranged a variety of hands-on workshops and interactive games that were both engaging and enjoyable. Villagers learned to make mugwort sachets in the shape of zongzi and used traditional rubbing techniques to decorate fans, allowing them to experience cultural creativity firsthand. Students also led participants in fun activities such as toy car racing with paper cups, beanbag tossing, and ping-pong quiz challenges, promoting physical activity, friendly competition, and interaction among residents. At the conclusion of the activities, students distributed fresh fruits, red bean paste treats, and lucky bags to the villagers, enhancing the festive atmosphere and sharing joy within the community.

This student-led community service project provided valuable practical opportunities, enabling students to apply core management skills such as event planning, resource coordination, and teamwork in a real-world setting. Additionally, students cultivated empathy, cultural awareness, and leadership abilities—skills that are essential for their future careers and personal development. For villagers, the event offered a chance to deepen their understanding of traditional customs, participate in creative cultural expressions, and enjoy a joyful community gathering.

The BSc(EM) programme remains committed to cultivating socially responsible individuals who value community engagement. Through initiatives like this, students not only learn effective management but also develop compassion, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of social responsibility to lead with integrity. We sincerely thank Lok Sin Tong for their support, which made this event possible. Such collaborations continue to strengthen the meaningful bonds between students and the community, enriching everyone’s lives.
