The Teaching Sharing Session held on 1 June was a great success, engaging colleagues for an exchange of practice-based teaching ideas.
The session opened with three presentations that highlighted innovative approaches to enhancing student learning through experiential pedagogy, peer-led instruction, and educational technology. Ms Yvette Leung shared an experiential learning initiative carried out in her course: PFS2013: Philosophical and Socio-cultural Issues in Education in which first-year undergraduate students were connected with a local education NGO and innovative schools. The initiative helped students translate abstract philosophical and socio-cultural theories into grounded understanding through real-world engagement. As part of the learning process, students also wrote case studies documenting the innovations observed, which will be published later through the NGO’s media outlets, further extending the impact of the project beyond the classroom.
Dr Leung Wing Tat introduced his “Learning from Each Other” workshop, implemented in his course EDA 4100: Rethinking and Reimagining Education. The workshop invited students to teach their peers a skill or topic they felt confident in, while allowing classmates to freely choose the “classes” they were most interested in attending. The activity was followed by a structured debrief that explored the conditions which support pleasant and effective teaching and learning processes. Mr Martin Lam, then showcased a range of EdTech tools he uses to address learner diversity when teaching large classes. He also provided hands-on guidance to help colleagues navigate these platforms and consider practical applications in their own teaching contexts.

The session wrapped up with more discussion on ways in enhancing the teaching and learning experience in class and beyond. We look forward to more teaching sharing sessions by other colleagues in the coming semester!
