EPL Seminar with University of Saskatchewan Scholar: Prof Paul Newton - A Study of Middle Leaders and Learning Improvement in Universities

2025-12-19

From 2–8 December 2025, the Department of Education Policy and Leadership was delighted to host Professor Paul Newton, Department Head and Professor of Educational Administration at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada).

During his visit, Professor Newton delivered a seminar titled “A Study of Middle Leaders and Learning Improvement in Universities” to staff and students of EdUHK on 4 December 2025. The seminar emphasized that Learning and Teaching (L&T) effectiveness is critical for university success. Research indicates that Department Chairs (DCs) often face challenges in enhancing L&T quality due to under-resourced and undervalued leadership roles.

The seminar facilitated meaningful dialogue on improving academic practices, with Prof Newton’s expertise inspiring participants to reconsider leadership and pedagogical approaches in higher education.

The Department extends its sincere gratitude to Prof Paul Newton for sharing his invaluable insights with our community. We look forward to future collaborations and advancing innovative practices in higher education.
