Blooming Hainan Elaeocarpus to welcome a lively summer of EdUHK 似榕非榕 盛放迎夏!
Blooming in the summer, the flowers of Hainan Elaeocarpus (“水石榕”) are hanging down swaying in the wind like small bells when they bloom. Often mistakenly associated with banyan trees, the trees demonstrate a dense structure that symbolize a prosperous character and the calyx in pink or pinkish white become the highlights of the trees. The petals of the Hainan Elaeocarpus will split into feather shapes at the edges, and the flowers have a fresh fragrance that can attract bees and butterflies to collect nectar, thus contributing to ecosystem diversity.
Located in the garden on podium floor of Block B3-B4, they were previously damaged by fungal infections in the past. With the dedicated efforts of the gardening team, the Hainan Elaeocarpus have significantly recovered to almost their best state showcasing their strong vitality.
