Integrating interactive activities when teaching large groups in an online environment often presents a challenge. In order to engage students, it is necessary to create an interactive event rather than deliver a monologue like a regular lecture. Technology such as Zoom can provide access to a wonder of resources, tools, and apps at the touch of a finger. In this experience-sharing session, I’ll share how I design and facilitate engaging synchronous online sessions. We will explore a variety of interactive activities and practical strategies for motiving students and discuss how you can integrate them into your synchronous online teaching. Specifically, we will focus on engagement boosters, stirrers, assigning roles to students, and emotion checks. Participants will be given the opportunity to share their online teaching tips, strategies, and tricks. When done right, these strategies will not only get your students to participate actively in classes online but keep them coming back for more.
