Patent Application

A patent application is not just a means to legally protect EdUHK’s invention, but also a way to capitalise on EdUHK’s knowledge transfer to society via patent licensing. The University set up the Central Funding for Patent Application in 2018 to support academics and researchers in protecting their inventions through patent applications. Since then, the patent application procedures have undergone rounds of refinements to streamline the procedures and introduce comprehensive patent consultation services. Applications can be made throughout the year.

Fund Support

The KT Sub-office set up a central fund to support patent applications for inventions from the staff of EdUHK.  It aims to encourage EdUHK staff to protect their intellectual work through patent registration.  Applications can be made throughout the year.

Eligibility

All full-time academic and teaching staff who have at least one-year contract can apply for this fund.

Procedures

Colleagues wishing to apply for central funding support of patent applications are requested to submit a completed Invention Disclosure Form to the Committee of Research and Development (CRD) via KT Sub-office.

The proposed fund applications will be vetted by the CRD.  KT Sub-office of RDO will administrate the applications received and make recommendations to CRD for final consideration.
