“Yueju Accomp” is developed by Professor Leung Bo-wah, Director of the RCTCO, and Dr. Leung Chi-hin, Assistant Professor of CCA. The application is supported by the EdUHK iTech Fund and is the first application on Yueju accompaniment that has been patented in Hong Kong by the Intellectual Property Department in September 2022 (Patent no.:30074358).

The aims and specialities of "Yueju Accomp" includes:
• Combines the traditional Cantonese operatic music with modern technology, in order to provide the public with a user-friendly application to experience the accompaniment of Cantonese operatic music as well as building a teaching and learning platform for primary, secondary schools and universities
• Users can simply turn their tablets into the music instruments used in Cantonese opera and act like a musician by playing different repertoires, hence, to bring the users a brand-new performance and learning experience
• Special designed Gong-che notation keyboard and percussion keyboard
• The Expression Grid is designed for users to manipulate the dynamics and articulation with a set of multi-touch gestures on tablets
• 12 types of melodic instruments, 14 types of percussion instruments with 5 Sins are available for selection
• Most of the instrument soundfonts are produced by professional musicians with live recording in studio
• 10 default scores are provided, users can also import their score file (in PDF format) into the app

1. Press Conference on iPad application “Yueju Accomp” - 18 March 2023
A press conference on the iPad application “Yueju Accomp” was held in Seminar Hall, Xiqu Centre, to present its features, educational purposes, and effectiveness, as well as a demonstration. The teachers who participated the trial stage of the app also shared the teaching purposes and effectiveness in the press conference. The press conference was attended by nearly 100 teachers or members of the public who were Cantonese opera lovers. During the trial session, a group of participants even performed "Fragrant Sacrifice" together, creating a lively atmosphere and receiving widespread media coverage.。


2. Innocarnival 2022 - 22 to 30 October, 2022
Organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), EdUHK joined the "Innocarnival 2022" in Hong Kong Science Park to showcase the iPad app "Yueju Accomp". Professor Sun Dong, JP, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau, also visited the showcase of EdUHK. According to figures from the ITC, Innocarnival 2022 recorded more than 4,260 attendees, fulfilling the Center's aim to reach more students and the public through this event, and to promote Cantonese opera.
