Rising Stars Internationally Recognised

2020-02-17

Dr Henry Ho, Dr Li Man Wai Liman, and Dr Tong Xiuhong from the Department of Psychology have been honoured as APS Rising Stars by the Association for Psychological Science (APS).

The award is presented to outstanding APS members in the earliest stages of their research career.

Dr Henry Ho developed positive psychology interventions to promote well-being at the individual, family, community, and city levels. He also investigated the psychosocial determinants of work-related well-being.

“I feel such an honour to be selected as an APS Rising Star in 2019,” Dr Ho said. “This achievement would not have been possible without the support from my supervisor, collaborators, and colleagues. I would also like to express my sincerest gratitude to the Department, Faculty, and University for providing me with the valuable opportunities and resources to conduct my research. I simply could not have asked for a more supportive work culture.”

Dr Liman Li’s research examines mental health, decision making and social relationships from a socio-cultural ecological perspective.

“I feel very honoured to be named as one of the APS’s Rising Stars in 2019. As a researcher in the early stages of my career, I appreciate the opportunities provided by the University very much.  I am also grateful to many colleagues and my collaborators for their great support and contribution. I will continue to unpack the complex relationship between ecology and human psychological functioning in my research journey.”

Dr Tong Xiuhong’s research focuses onsemantic and syntactic aspects of reading development and impairment from a cross-cultural and neuroscience perspective.

“I feel appreciated and proud to be selected as one of APS rising stars. This success would not have be possible without the support from my Ph.D. supervisor, collaborators and friends. This award is also a good reflection of the outstanding research culture that our Department, our Faculty and our University has built over the years. I am fortunate to work in a university that provides amazing research platforms and resources to academics and I am also thankful to be in a department and faculty with highly supportive colleagues. This award encourages me to do better.”
