From June 8 to 10, 2026, a six-member delegation of the Department of Psychology at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) embarked on a productive visit to Soochow University in Suzhou, China, and Fudan University in Shanghai, China. The delegation aimed to foster academic exchanges and explore collaborative research opportunities with the two prestigious institutions. The delegation comprised Dr. Liman Man Wai LI, Acting Head, Dr. Ivan Kai Tak POON, Associate Head (Research), Dr. Xiuhong TONG, Associate Head (International Affairs), Dr. Michael Kin Chung YEUNG, Dr. Nichol Man Lok WONG, and Dr. Ting Yat WONG.
First Stop – Soochow University: Engaging with Cutting-Edge Research on Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, and Cognition
On June 8, the delegation was warmly received by the Department of Psychology at Soochow University’s School of Education. Professor Wenfeng FENG, the Associate Dean of the School, provided a comprehensive introduction to the School’s development, academic strengths, and research focus. In turn, Dr. Liman Li introduced EdUHK’s Department of Psychology, taught programmes, and strategic directions, highlighting the University and the Department’s commitment to excellence in both research and education. The academic exchange session featured presentations from both institutions. Our EdUHK colleagues showcased their ongoing research on neuroscience, developmental Psychology, and cognition. We were also delighted to hear from researchers at Soochow University, who presented their latest studies on attentional blink, short-video usage, and digital health interventions. The visit concluded with a productive roundtable discussion, during which both sides identified shared research interests and explored potential collaborations, including joint research projects, co-supervision of postgraduate students, and academic resource sharing. We look forward to building on these promising conversations.
Second Stop – Fudan University: Deepening Ties with a Leading Psychology Department
On June 9, the delegation travelled to Shanghai for an exchange with the Department of Psychology at Fudan University. The meeting was hosted by Professor Shijin SUN, the Founding Head of the Department, and Professor Bin-Bin CHEN, the current Department Head, along with several faculty members. The session began with mutual introductions of departmental profiles and academic offerings. This was followed by a stimulating academic presentation session. Our EdUHK team was privileged to present alongside our colleagues at Fudan University on social psychology. We were equally impressed by the presentations from colleagues of Fudan University. This visit concluded with an open discussion on future collaborative opportunities, where both parties expressed strong interest in deepening their partnership. Possible areas for collaboration include joint research in social and developmental psychology, faculty and student exchange programmes, and co-organising academic conferences.
The recent visits to Soochow University and Fudan University mark a significant milestone in EdUHK’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its academic network. These exchanges have not only deepened our understanding of the research and educational landscape in the Chinese Mainland but have also opened up exciting opportunities for meaningful, long-term collaboration. We sincerely thank our colleagues at Soochow University and Fudan University for their warm hospitality and intellectual generosity. We are looking forward to the next steps in our collaborative journey!
