    Small group role play (25 mins)  
       
   

Having seen the extract of the actual pre-lesson conference conducted with this beginning teacher, you may like to role play your own version of how you think it could have been done differently. For example, the mentors are giving much helpful advice, but is it too much or just about right? What do you think, and why? Base your role play on the notes you made in response to the questions in activity A.

Form yourselves into threes or fours, where one person can play the role of the beginning teacher, and the others her colleagues. Give yourselves ten minutes for this version of the role play and then swap roles to create an alternative version. In the second version, try focusing on different issues or giving somewhat different answers.
