The practice of teaching
is variously contextualised. Each different context provides
both opportunities and constraints. All teaching takes
place within a curriculum
context; an overarching framework of syllabus content, methods, aims,
justifications, that variously determines the teaching and
learning of each individual lesson. In Hong Kong , the new
Key Learning Areas (KLAs) and the emphasis on moving from
passive to active learning, the development of creative thinking
and the integration of values across the curriculum, combine
to provide the context for teaching and learning. Lesson
conferencing, when conducted in Hong Kong , will inevitably
be influenced by, and will need to be responsive to, the
local curriculum context.
