52 posters were collected for display in the Central Plaza of the Institute. Outstanding work was selected for the 'Best Presentation Award', the 'Best Content Award', and the 'Best Poster Design Award'. Each group had 5-7 minutes to present their research to their course instructors and adjudicators from the Department of Social Sciences. Apart from responding to their teachers' comments, before and after their presentations students also needed to evaluate their peers' work and respond to their peers' questions regarding their posters.
As a form of intervention, this poster presentation exercise offered students the following training: |

Group 2:
'We needed sufficient preparation beforehand. We arrived early at the presentation venue for rehearsal, and we distributed the drafts of our speech among us. Each group member not only had to present their parts well. Through the cooperation between one another, we ensured that we could do a coherent and complete presentation.'

Group 5 : 'Regardless of how visually appealing the poster design is, presenters' vivid presentation and interpretation of the poster contents remains the key to a successful poster presentation.'
Thus, sufficient preparation was needed ahead of the presentation. Students prepared for their presentation in different ways. |

Group 4:
'A "genuine presentation" needs no drafts of speech. Presentations are what facilitate our dialogue and exchange with the public. With thorough understanding of our research, we could |
|
 |
share our research results at ease. Of course, without the rehearsals beforehand, we would not have performed well and made a good impression |

The Poster Presentation Day offered students valuable experiences of team work, peer evaluation and exchange with peers studying different courses in social sciences.
Group 9:
'Every one of us really enjoyed this exercise. Having finished our presentation, we could listen to other groups sharing their research findings in a relaxed manner. We learnt a lot indeed. Poster presentation is not only intellectually enriching. It also enhances our team work spirit, with each of us unleashing our strengths respectively.' |

Our course instructors and adjudicators had only good words to say about the performance of the students on the Poster Presentation Day. As Dr. Hui suggested: 'The students demonstrated a high level of professionalism and diligence in presenting their ideas in such an innovative manner.'
Most important is that students had this opportunity to learn from their encounters with the critical mass in the academia. For our instructor Dr. Lam: |

'Group 3 was prompt and confident when responding to our questions concerning their methodology and the significance of their research. This is telling of the preparation work they did beforehand.' |
