Dr. Anita Chan:
'It was really exciting when more than 50 posters were mounted in the Central Plaza on the day. I was even more touched when I noticed the great strides made by my students. The time when I marked their initial proposals, I was worried as they seemed to know very little about the course materials. Even at the time when they finished their final reports, some of their ideas were still unclear and immature. However, the day when I looked at their posters and what they presented, I could not help but said 'wow' -- they finally got it! I could tell they had worked very hard and almost redid the whole projects for the poster presentation. As their teacher, I was really touched by their diligence and intellectual growth!'

Dr. Lawrence Ho:
'The project gives social sciences students the first touch to an academic research - from topic setting, question design, methodology selection, fieldwork management, report writing to verbal illustration to professors. I am pleased to witness their curiosity, dilemma, joyfulness throughout the project, as well as the good collegiality in preparation for the public presentation.'

The presentations demonstrated an innovation on the part of our teaching colleagues and also the full participation from our students. From the perspective of teaching and learning, the poster presentations were innovative, participative, interactive and stimulating. Dr. Alice Chow:
'This project is a good learning experience to my students and myself. I witnessed improvement of students' work from the beginning of this learning activity to the day of poster presentation. At the beginning they might lack confidence or skills to propose valid topic proposal. With the help of workshops and consultation, the quality of their work has been improved. Even though I have devoted more time than usual to this course, it is worthwhile as I believe that this project can enhance my students' various abilities that can only benefit their intellectual development.' |
