BGCS Students Won The Second Runner-up In The Inter-University Public Policy Case Competition

BGCS Students Won The Second Runner-up In The Inter-University Public Policy Case Competition
Our students from the Bachelor Programme of Greater China Studies (BGCS) of the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) won the Second Runner-up in the first Inter-University Public Policy Case Competition held in The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in April 2019.

In the competition, participants were required to analyse and resolve assigned real-life public policy problems which all are pressing policy challenges that the policymakers need to address. Teams were asked to draft report, deliver pitches and answer questions upon the hot topics- TSA, Lantau Tomorrow, Uber.

The competition, which had three rounds of battle, was highly fierce. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from all universities in Hong Kong formed teams to fight for the first championship of this HongKong-wide universities competition. The judge panel was chaired by Professor Anthony Cheung (the former Secretary for Transport and Housing of Hong Kong Government, former President of the Education University of Hong Kong and currently the Research Chair Professor of Public Administration of Eduhk and Visiting Professor of HKUST), and comprised of former senior official from the Legislative Council and Central Policy Unit of the Hong Kong Government, as well as academics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong, HKUST, and EdUHK.

Our team, "Esplendor", consists of Pui Gi SZETO, Shiqian ZHANG, Ho Yau TONG, Janice TANG, and Wai Lam NGAI, who are all Year-three students of the BGCS. Beating nearly 50 teams from other Universities in Hong Kong, the girls had been appraised of their brilliant performance in all three rounds of the competition. The team was awarded the second runner-up in the final round, just second to the Law School team of University of Hong Kong and the Master in Public Policy team of HKUST.

Mr Sam CHOI, the Lecturer of APS, played the role of mentor and coach of the team. He provided intensive training and academic guidance to the team throughout the entire competition, starting from March.

Another team from the APS of EdUHK, the "LAN team", which was formed by the students of The Master Programme of Public Policy and Management- Jiatong LIU, Jiahui FANG and Yuxuan DAI, also stood out from nearly 50 teams and entered the semi-final round.

Congratulations to our students' achievements! Their success proves the excellence, abilities and potentials of our students of BGCS, a self-financed programme. It is also a significant recognition of the first-class teaching and learning quality of APS.
