Dr Lam Ho Cheong, Assistant Professor at the Department of Early Childhood Education, was awarded a Publication Award in Language Learning at the Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards 2021.
Learning Chinese characters can be hard. Dr Lam's book helps learners identify the differences between Chinese characters (大同小異：辨識漢字不同處). It analyzes components, pronunciation and the stroke order of Chinese characters with real life examples, as contains tips on how to teach children.
“I am genuinely grateful for the recognition I have received for my work. I hope this book can boost the public’s interest in learning Chinese characters as they are more complex – in a good way – than they look or sound,” he said.
