Shynar Baimaganbetova is a PhD student in the EPL Department. She received her BA and MSc degrees from Almaty and Astana, Kazakhstan. Prior to joining the EdUHK, Shynar worked as an EFL instructor with young and adult learners. Her recent work experience involve a professional development program where she served as a trainer for English language teachers from vulnerable rural populations. Shynar’s current research project centers on youth aspirations and life transitions. Apart from academic life, she is passionate about interior and fashion design, mindful living, and dumplings.
Xeniya Belova is a PhD student at the Education University of Hong Kong. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Teaching English from the Eurasian National University in Astana, and her Master's Degree in Multilingual Education from Nazarbayev University in Astana.
Prior to entering EduHK, Xeniya worked as an administrator at Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education.
Xeniya is passionate about research and her research project, which explores communication in multilingual and multicultural education environments in Kazakhstan and Hong Kong. Among non-research interests, she enjoys reading, learning foreign languages, traveling and painting.
Jet took his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with distinction at Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Manila, Philippines where he also worked as the Student Research Coordinator and a Psychology instructor at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
A licensed psychologist and psychometrician, Jet completed his Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, Philippines. He became involved in research projects related to parenting and adolescent decision-making.
As a graduate student, he is currently working on research projects in Positive Youth Development (PYD) and adolescent mental health.
I graduated from Bristol University in 2015, and am now studying for my PhD at the Education University of Hong Kong. I am conducting a pedagogical study on the development of students' generic green skills in the context of TVET. I enjoy my study and life here. I like teaching kids singing. I also have many hobbies like yoga, hiking, archery, running and baking.
As a psychology major, I understand the challenges of interpersonal communication. I am also empathetic with the difficulties in interpersonal communication that we are facing during our inflexible perspective taking. With my enthusiasm and patience, I believe that I would be a supportive and thoughtful counselling psychologist.
Yasmin obtained her Honours degree at the University of Dundee (UK) and was selected for the Roche Continents program during her studies.
Currently, she is pursuing her research studies at the Education University of Hong Kong, and learning about different aspects of culture in Hong Kong.

I am a first year Ph.D. student from the Philippines. My research interests include the emotional regulation of academic emotions, and its impact on engagement and learning outcomes.
I worked as a research assistant in EdUHk for 1 year prior to my studies and was a research coordinator in a graduate school in the Philippines for 2 years. I like analyzing data and sharing my research with academics and practitioners. I’m looking forward to my studies at EdUHK!
Regina is a PhD candidate in the Department of Education Policy and Leadership, with a background in applied psychology and counselling psychology. Prior to joining EdUHK, her work included providing counselling services in a medical clinic, and conducting tutorials of a common core course for undergraduate students. She is passionate about learning and research. She embraces the pragmatism research philosophy.

Guo Wu Yuan joined the Department of Curriculum and Instruction as a PhD student in September 2017. Prior to studying the doctoral programme in educational assessment, she majored in Applied Psychology for her Bachelor and Master’s degree and became a registered Psychological Counsellor in Mainland China. Her doctoral study focuses on educational assessment, mainly from the perspective of Psychology. She is also interested in the Rasch model and Item Response Theory.
Salomey is an educator with 8 years experience in the field of Education in her home country, Liberia. She has worked as a Science teacher, a university lecturer, a STEM instruction coordinator, and a teacher trainer with public, private, local and international organizations. She is interested in providing education that equips students to survive in the 21st century. In this vein, she sees rigorous teacher professional development as an essential means to that end. Outside of academics, Salomey is passionate about music, food, culture, and critical media literacy.
HE is a PhD student in Early Childhood Education. She is a registered teacher at the Education Bureau of Hong Kong, and a registered child care supervisor and worker at the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong. She has working experience of teaching and managing in kindergartens in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. She endeavours to promote knowledge transfer and quality education in ECE in Chinese contexts. She likes traveling, scuba diving, long-distance running, reading and writing.
HO Cheuk Ming Hades received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. After ten years of working as a corporate trainer, Outward Bound instructor, secondary school vice-principal and playgroup teacher, he started to pursue the postgraduate degree in Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. He is interested in character education in early childhood. He likes sports, especially water sports.
Qi HUANG is a PhD candidate in the Department of Early Childhood Education. She received her Bachelor from the Northeast Normal University and Masters from the Education University of Hong Kong. She has been engaged in research on understanding children's motivations and learning, and how parents and teachers can take action to enhance their children's motivation and learning. Qi's research interest explores the cognitive, motivational, and environmental factors that underlie children’s acquisition of mathematics and science.
This is the sixth year that Fei has studied at the Education University of Hong Kong since 2013. She obtained the BSocSc in 2017 and now is studying towards an MPhil here. Fei is patient with and concentrated on her research and other daily life events, so she can always find best dishes in the cities she travels to. She has the world’s cutest cat, Mimi, and a dog called Wowo.
Jeehee Kim obtained both her BA and MA in TESOL in South Korea.
Finding her passion and love for English education early, she chose to continue her academic journey while gaining teaching experience. She has taught various age groups, from kindergarten to adult learners. These experiences gave her an interest in Curriculum and Education policies, as well as a dream of making the life of Korean students better and happier.
Beside English education, she loves music and travelling.
I’m interested in studying the sleep-emotion interplay. I use behavioral and physiological measures (EEG) to explore how emotional regulation is compromised after sleep deprivation. For leisure, I enjoy playing the flute, hiking and doing yoga :)

Sunshine LUAN is a PhD student of the Department of Special Education & Counselling and affiliated with the Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education. She loves laughter, and hiking with friends. She hopes that everyone can enjoy life like her. This is why she is interested in promoting positive psychology to teachers under inclusive education.
I came from Shenzhen with an academic background in materials science and engineering. I would like to change my career path as I have deep interest in education. Norman is a Filipino Ph.D. student enrolled in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in 2019.
He received his BS Psychology degree from the Angeles University Foundation, Philippines in 2011 and his Masters in Counseling and Psychotherapy in the University of Saint Joseph, Macau SAR in 2014. He's the eldest of three brothers.

Ninh Nguyen is a PhD student at the Faculty of Education and Human Development.
She received her BA from Vietnam National University in Vietnam, and her MA from La Trobe University in Australia.
Before joining EdUHK, Ninh worked as a lecturer of Translation and Interpretation at Vietnam National University and an education consultant for the World Bank Group in Vietnam. Her work experience involves training young would-be translators, professional development for EFL teachers, and policy advice in higher education.
Prem Prasad Poudel has a wide range of teaching and research experiences in Nepal. He has worked as a mentor for college students for some years. Currently, he is working on language policy issues and is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Policy Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong. This looks at Medium of instruction policies and their enactment from an equity in policy implementation process. Apart from this, he has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals that deal with multilingualism, information and communication technologies and teacher education. He has also worked in various positions in professional organizations and contributed as a reviewer for some journals.
I’m Xinyue, from SEC department. My academic life is consists of studying and experiments. In my spare time, I like exercising, swimming, listening to concerts, watching movies and dramas, searching for delicious food, and travelling. As a RPg student, I hope I can “work hard, play hard”.

I am the founder of a social enterprise – Ellefun – a child education center. I also worked in The Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan as a research fellow, where I conducted research on various topics and helped to prepare recommendations on policy to the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Apart from academic life, I am passionate about social entrepreneurship.
Alan is a PhD student at the Education University of Hong Kong. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Washington, Seattle. Prior to becoming a student in EdUHK , Alan worked as a research assistant on numbers of research projects in the area of special needs using technologies like eye-tracking and EEG. Alan’s research interest is in the understanding of the underlying brain mechanisms of mental wellbeing. His PhD project focuses on the examination of stress resilience by utilizing MRI neuroimaging techniques. His hobbies are sports and travelling.

TANG Jianjing, Janice is a PhD student of the Department of Education Policy and Leadership. Janice received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and her Master’s degree specializing in Higher Education. She was a research assistant of The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change at The Education University of Hong Kong before joining the Department.
She is currently pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Dr. BRYANT, Darren Anthony. Her research interests include middle leadership, instructional leadership, and educational reform in China. Janice’s current research project centers on how subject leaders facilitate teaching and learning at Chinese schools.
Apart from academic work, she is very passionate about traveling, cooking, making friends, and playing the piano. She looks forward to interacting with you and learn from one another!

Thieu Thi Hoang Oanh has a wide range of teaching and research experiences in Vietnam. She obtained her MA degree from Can Tho University in 2008. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in English Language Education and is a member of the Language Massive Open Online Course (LMOOC) project team, specializing in “Learning IELTS Writing and Speaking through Intercultural Education”. She has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals.
I majored in Translation at HKBU before I studied my Masters in Education at EdUHK. I’m now starting my PhD in EPL.

Wu Xue is a PhD candidate in the Department of International Education and Lifelong Learning at the Education University of Hong Kong. Her research interests lie primarily in the fields of lifelong learning, investigating the relationship between ageing and later life learning for older adults, as well as policy and practice pertinent to the provision of lifelong learning for older adults in China, and exploring ways to integrate these insights into policy-making. Her doctoral thesis theorizes and conceptualizes the role of empowerment in community-based later life learning, and their influence on active ageing, utilizing theories from education, sociology and philosophy.
Miss WU completed her undergraduate studies at Eastern New Mexico University in USA with a dual degree in Accounting/Business Administration and Electronic Media, and holds a Master degree in Business Administration. Before devoting her study to EdUHK, Miss WU served as a PR Specialist at State Grid Corporation of China, and an editor at China Electric Power Press.
I am glad to be a PhD student in the Department of Psychology. Prior to starting my PhD study, I worked as a research assistant at EdUHK. The precious research experience provided me insights on how the physical environments impact an individual’s psychological states. Thus, currently, my research concerns the interactions between individuals and their surroundings. Specifically, I examine the ways in which the natural environment and our built environment could enhance the levels of individuals' well-being, mental health, and emotional states. Apart from my academic life, I love spending time with my family, friends, and my two beloved dogs, Ben & Wayne. I also enjoy the nature and hiking, watching live music shows, and tasting different cuisines.
With a master’s degree in developmental and educational psychology from Shenzhen University, Ms. Min YANG is pursuing her PhD in educational psychology at EdUHK. She believes that education is the most direct way that leads to success, and this is particularly true for ethnic minority students in HK. Min is fascinated by the cutting-edge research on education and psychology, seeking effective methods to improve children’s learning and reading skills. She has decided to develop a lifelong career in education. Her current research focuses on children’s cognitive development, learning and reading, language development and learning difficulties and intervention, reading and learning in Chinese language among ethnic minority students in HK.
I have broad research interests in the field of education. My teaching experience in various settings and research background inspired me to focus on local phenomena from a global perspective.
I am exploring the external and internal factors affecting policy change in the kindergartens adjacent to the Shenzhen-Hong Kong boundary areas. The findings will provide strategies about their sustainable development to policy makers at the kindergarten and government level.

I am from Henan, China. Graduating from the Education University of Hong Kong with a Master’s degree in Education, I have worked in Sanya Aviation and Tourism College as a lecturer for three years, specializing in for Civil Aviation Transportation. Currently, I am working on reading comprehension issues and am pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology. My research focuses on the role of social-emotional factors and linguistic skills on reading comprehension in both monolingual and bilingual children, and on reading difficulties among left-behind children.
