The University is dedicated to creating a safe, accessible and pedestrian-friendly campus environment. We aim to promote walking as the primary mode of movement within campus, encouraging health, sustainability, and community engagement.
Pedestrian infrastructure and safety
- All buildings on Tai Po Campus are interconnected through well-maintained pedestrian walkways, covered walkways, and indoor passages, allowing staff and students to move comfortably and safely between buildings and facilities regardless weather conditions.
- Well-marked crossings and road humps are installed across campus roadways to enhance pedestrian safety, and ensure smooth and secure crossings.
- The emergency vehicle access (EVA) at the podium level running through our campus is prioritized for pedestrian use and is prohibited for vehicular access except under special circumstances.
- The Campus Navigation developed by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) provides an interactive 3D map for easy, point-to-point directions inside and outside campus buildings.
Accessibility
- All pathways and building entrance are designed to be barrier-free to assist individuals with mobility challenges.
- Elevators and lifts are available in all buildings to facilitate movement between floors.
Supporting Sustainable Transportation
- Shuttle services to various MTR stations are provided for staff and students to encourage the use of public transportation.
- 42 bicycle racks are available along Upper Spine Road, outside the Operational Staff Quarters, to support low-carbon commuting options for both students and staff.
