2026 Earth Hour 2026

The annual global “lights out” event, the Earth Hour, will take place at 8:30pm on Saturday, 28th March this year. Same as previous years, EdUHK will continue to participate in the Earth Hour again by turning off all non-essential external lights for one hour, including those in the Emergency Vehicle Access, gardens and planters on Podium, main corridor on G/F and external areas in student halls/quarters and Senior Staff Quarters on our Tai Po Campus. For the indoor lights, we would like to ask for support from

  • all staff members by switching off office lights and non-essential equipment before leaving the office on the Friday before Earth Hour (i.e. 27th March); and
  • all student residents of student halls/quarters by switching off the lights in your rooms/units from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on 28th March.

We would like to invite all of you to participate in the Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights and appliances at home and doing something – anything – positive for our planet during the event:

  • Rethink: Audit your daily habits. In a city as dense as Hong Kong, small changes—like committing to a plastic-free lifestyle or choosing sustainable seafood—lead to massive collective impact.
  • Reconnect: Switch off your devices and spend 60 minutes mindfully appreciating the nature around you—whether it's stargazing from your balcony or enjoying the calm and silence of a dimmed room.
  • Learn: Dive into the State of Hong Kong Biodiversity 2025 report and the Hong Kong Terrestrial Biodiversity Hotspot Map 2025, to learn about the threats of the most vulnerable species that face local extinction and the conservation significance of the critical biodiversity hotspots.
  • Restore: Take the first step. Audit your household habits to reduce waste or plan a sustainable, plant-forward meal for the week ahead.
  • Inspire: Share your commitment to a nature-positive life with your friends and family online.

Please also share this message with your families and friends, and encourage them to participate as well. Don’t forget to show your support by signing the pledge online at https://earthhour.wwf.org.hk/en/pledge-for-personal.

Furthermore, WWF will kickstart the journey of Earth Hour by a wide array of interactive activities from 7th March. Also, they will organize the Earth Hour Carnival at 1881 Heritage on 28th March. For details, please visit the activity webpage at https://earthhour.wwf.org.hk/en/activities.

Your hour can change our future.

  • 所有教職員於「地球一小時」舉行前之星期五 (327) 在離開辦公室前將照明及非必要之設備關掉;
