Since 2020, I have increasingly worked with teachers, schools, universities, NGOs, industry partners, and government organisations to put this research into practice.

Much of this work has taken place in Indonesia, where collaborative programmes with local teachers and schools have involved more than 2,800 learners. Related work is now developing in Vietnam and in Hong Kong schools where access to additional language-learning opportunities can be more limited.

For me, the most valuable part of these projects has been spending time with teachers and learners, listening to their experiences, recognising where our research assumptions do not fit local realities, and adapting the work accordingly.

The aim is not simply to introduce a programme or technology, but to develop approaches that teachers, schools, and communities can adapt, sustain, and make their own.

Selected projects include:

• Enhancing English speaking through IDLE coaching: from Indonesia and Vietnam to Hong Kong’s underserved schools (2026–2027)
• AI-mediated IDLE for speaking development in less-resourced regions (2026–2027)
• Fostering access to global English through informal digital learning (2024–2025)
• Promoting linguistic equity in under-resourced regions (2024–2025)

These programmes are supported by research and knowledge-transfer funding and developed with local partners.
