Teaching Interests

My teaching practice is shaped by over 25 years of experience across schools, universities, private learning centers, and nonprofit organizations in the United States, Hong Kong, and mainland China. I am deeply committed to nurturing pedagogies that are responsive to both social contexts and individual learner needs, and to supporting educators in developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to do the same. My teaching and teacher development interests include:

Research Interests

My research has employed ethnographic, discourse-analytic, and sociolinguistic approaches to investigate the intersections of language, identity, and inequality in educational settings. My work has been informed by and speaks directly to my practice in schools and communities. Key areas of focus include:
