ELE’s 8th Annual eTEACHERS Roundtable Meets on Taipo Campus:
“Learning Together” Theme brings Local Hong Kong and Indonesian Teachers Together
On Saturday afternoon, June 6th, 2026, the Department of ELE hosted the 8th Annual eTEACHERS Roundtable at the EdUHK Taipo campus. The event brought together over 150 classroom teachers, educational leaders and academics to explore the role of teacher-facing and student-facing AI in English teaching. Participants meeting on campus in Hong Kong were joined via hybrid mode by nearly 50 Indonesian professors and teachers exploring relevant practice for Indonesian English learners.
Head of the Dept of ELE, Prof Hans Ladegaard, welcomed participants with a friendly reminder that we are all teachers and learners, and events such as the Roundtable are an opportunity to share good practice, reflect on what works and analyse the road ahead. Dr Timothy Taylor, a Senior Lecturer in the department introduced the Roundtable themes and moderated an engaging discussion with panellists, including ELE colleagues, Dr Lucas Kohnke and Mr Denis Wong; Vice-principals Mr Alvin Chung, Ms Cheung Wai Shan and Mr Keric Lee; and English Panel Chair, Ms Caren Lam. The lively discussion included several challenging questions from the audience about the ethical and practical decisions English teachers need to make about the role of AI in lesson planning and assessment.
Following the Roundtable, seminar speakers conducted six breakout sessions with participants, sharing ideas and resources for responsible use of AI for lesson planning, self-directed learning activities and assessment practices. The Roundtable discussion and seminar presentations will be shared on the eTEACHERS CoP professional development hub later this month, so participants can continue to benefit from the experience-sharing.
