SSPS Welcomes Over 140 Undergraduate Freshmen at Departmental Orientation 2026
The Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies (SSPS) warmly welcomed more than 140 freshmen from six undergraduate programmes at the departmental orientation, which was held on 24 August 2026 at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK).
The orientation marked the beginning of a new chapter for students joining the SSPS community. It provided an opportunity for freshmen to meet academic staff and fellow students, learn more about their programmes, and gain a better understanding of university life at EdUHK.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Naubahar SHARIF, Head of the Department, who encouraged students to make the most of their university experience by embracing new opportunities, building meaningful connections and pursuing their academic goals with curiosity and confidence.
Following the departmental welcome session, senior-year entrants attended a briefing on key academic matters and course registration arrangements. The session helped them better understand the University’s learning environment, systems and support services, facilitating a smooth transition into their studies at EdUHK.
The orientation then continued with activities organised by the respective programme teams. Through programme briefings, experience-sharing sessions and interactive activities, freshmen gained a deeper understanding of their studies and campus life at EdUHK. They also learned about overseas exchange, internships and student development opportunities, drawing on the practical advice and first-hand experiences shared by teaching staff, senior students and invited guests.
The lively interactions throughout the day enabled freshmen to connect with peers, engage with academic staff and become more familiar with the supportive environment within SSPS!
As the new semester begins today, SSPS warmly welcomes all freshmen to the Department and the wider EdUHK community. The Department wishes them a smooth and enjoyable start to university life, and a rewarding journey filled with new opportunities, lasting friendships and memorable experiences.
