Welcome to JCSQ!
JCSQ is viewed as a humanistic and student-centered hall with unique characteristics of the closely knitted and almost self-sufficient mini-community. With the concerted efforts of Management Team, Tutorial Team, Student Residents’ Association (SRA) and Floor Committees, JCSQ is built to be a living-learning community that provides ample opportunities for JCians to learn how to balance their priorities, obligations and opportunities which are conducive to their personal and professional growth. In the year 09-10, 'responsibility, understanding and support, commitment and respect for diversity' are chosen as themes of JCSQ.
Welcome Speech from Warden (Dr Wan Lai Yin Sarah)
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to our hall community.
Hall life is far more than simply a place to stay — it is an invaluable part of your university education. Living and learning together offers countless opportunities to grow not only academically, but personally and socially. It is in this vibrant and diverse environment that you will discover your potential, explore your passions, and form friendships that may last a lifetime.
Here in JCSQ, we aim to cultivate a dynamic, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and inspired. Through active participation in hall activities — whether cultural, athletic, academic, or social — you will develop essential life skills in communication, teamwork, leadership, and time management. These are the very qualities that will prepare you not just for university success, but for challenges far beyond it.
I have always believed that the heart of our hall is not just in the building, but in the people who live here. You — our hall members — bring life, energy, and meaning to this community. As your Warden, I am committed to ensuring that this hall is more than just a place to live — it is a place to grow, to connect, and to thrive. I am proud to be part of your journey, and I look forward to sharing many meaningful moments together.
Once again, welcome to JCSQ — your home away from home.
Welcome Speech from Assistant Warden (Miss Bibi Tayyaba)
Dear JCians,
Welcome to the Jockey Club Student Quarters! It is my joy and honour to greet you as you begin this exciting chapter of your university life.
As your assistant warden, I want to share a little about myself and the spirit we hope to cultivate together here at JCSQ. Beyond my academic role at EdUHK, I run Pink Dolphin Academy, an award-winning social enterprise that trains women, especially from Ethnic Minority backgrounds, in swimming and hydrotherapy. This work reflects a simple but powerful belief: the world is full of opportunities waiting for us to dive into. I also have a passion for cycling and crocheting — two very different but rewarding ways to explore, create, and find balance. I warmly invite you to join me in these activities; whether we’re pedaling through the city or crafting something by hand, it’s another way we can connect and create memorable experiences together.
At JCSQ, you will find a lively and supportive environment where you are encouraged to explore new interests, build meaningful friendships, and develop your unique talents. Life here invites you to discover your strengths, embrace challenges, and reach your full potential.
Remember, university life is not just about academic achievement but also about growth, connection, and contribution. We want JCSQ to be a place where you feel at home, supported, and inspired to become the best version of yourself.
Let’s embark on this exciting journey together, creating a warm and empowering community brimming with growth, camaraderie, and inspiration. Welcome once again— I look forward to creating many memorable moments with all of you!
Warmest wishes,
Bibi Tayyaba
