Laughter and warm greetings filled the foyer of the Mong Man
Wai Library at the HKIEd on 31 March 2004 when Professor Ruth
Hayhoe, President Emeritus autographed copies of her
latest book - Full Circle: A Life with Hong Kong and China.
The event was an important part of Professor Hayhoe's itinerary
during a short visit to Hong Kong, and was her contribution to
our fund-raising campaign. This fund-raising drive was met with
an enthusiastic response. More than 80 staff, students and guests
shared happy moments with Professor Hayhoe and made donations
to the Institute. In return, they were each presented with an
autographed copy of the book as a token of appreciation. Over
HK$27,000 was raised for the HKIEd Development Fund.
Full Circle tells Professor Hayhoe's life story and
describes the influence of long exposure to the people and culture
of Hong Kong, China and East Asia. An established scholar in Comparative
Education, Professor Hayhoe started her teaching career in Heep
Yunn School in 1967. She taught at Fudan University, Shanghai,
from 1980 to 1982, was Cultural Attach?in the Canadian Embassy
based in Beijing from 1989 to 1991, and became Director of the
HKIEd in 1997. One chapter of the book describes her life in the
                HKIEd.
