Participating groups are encouraged to develop their own cross-disciplinary
project plans on SARS themes and present their findings through
multi-media demonstrations. Group projects are encouraged
as they provide opportunities for purposeful learning.
Students take an active role in planning and implementing
the learning activities. They search for answers to questions
through their own efforts. The process is as important as
the actual outcomes in the entire learning activity.

Two briefing sessions were held in June for interested
students and teachers. Mr Ip Kin-yuen, Lecturer of the
Department of Educational Policy and Administration
of the Hong Kong Institute of Education, spoke about
the choice of theme, the planning process, the division
of labour, presentation skills and the evaluation of
group projects. He emphasised that, for students, learning
should be an active process of searching for and constructing
knowledge instead of relying passively on what teachers
teach and what textbooks tell.
