Lunch Time Mindful Oasis

Lunch Time Mindful Oasis is organised by I-WELL in collaboration with Human Resources Office and Student Affairs Office by offering a series of sessions periodically to EdUHK staff and students.

Mindful Connection in school and home

Guest Speaker Ms Esther Kwok is a Senior Lecturer of Department of Special Education and Counselling, EdUHK. She also served as Speech Therapist at Hospital Authority for more than fifteen years and well understood the importance of mind-body connection with mental & physical health.
Being a Mindfulness teacher, Ms Kwok is devoted to teach Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindful parenting and .b Foundation Programme for parents of SEN children, teachers, social workers/administrative staff, and students and staff members of EdUHK.
Objective • To understand and practice Mindfulness, through which nurturing wisdom and compassion

Five ways to well-being and experience of Mindful Baduanjin

Guest Speaker Dr Sunny Chan is an Assistant Professor of Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He currently conducts mindfulness-based intervention programmes for patients with bipolar disorder. He received his foundation training in occupational therapy and psychology, and obtained his doctoral degree specialising in Mental Health in The University of Hong Kong.
Objective To cultivate mental well-being through five different important evidence-based actions.
Content • To learn and experience five ways to well-being, including:

Ancient Wisdom of Dealing with Anger—Education context

Guest Speaker Dr Elsa Lau is a Lecturer of Department of Special Education and Counselling, EdUHK. She served as a Panel Head of Ethics and Religious Studies in a secondary school for a couple of years. Since 2007, she has started teaching positive education and particularly mindfulness for school students, in-service teachers, pre-service teachers and social workers, etc.
Objective To share some ancient wisdom of handling anger and negative emotions in Education Context through cultivating awareness and loving-kindness

Mindfulness for Mind-body Wellness

Guest Speaker Dr. Samantha Yung is currently a Clinical Psychologist (CP) in private practice. As a professional CP, she previously worked for the Hospital Authority, the Department of Health and the Hong Kong Police for 15 years.

Samantha is also a mindfulness teacher. She has been practicing mindfulness since 2006 and sharing her practice with others in the past ten years. Samantha is passionate about yoga and has recently completed her yoga teacher training. She is hoping to help participants to cultivate awareness, inner peace and wellness through the concept of mindfulness and yoga practice.

Mindful Self-Compassion

Guest Speaker Dr Chloe Chin, a Clinical Psychologist, has completed the teacher trainings for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). Dr Chin started teaching mindfulness since 2010. She conducted many 8-week MBSR’s and MBCT’s training workshops as well as large-scale mindfulness workshops and training programs for clinical/non-clinical participants and professionals.
Objective To cultivate mindfulness and self-compassion, and to learn to embrace our difficulties with greater awareness, kindness and compassion.

Peace in Adversity

Non-Striving Attitude of Mindfulness

Guest Speaker Professor Lam Shui-fong is a Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). She was a recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award from HKU, the Outstanding International Scholar Award from the International School Psychology Association, and the Knowledge Exchange Award from the Social Sciences Faculty at HKU. She is now the Director of the Jockey Club “Peace and Awareness” Mindfulness in School Culture Initiative. It is her aspiration to promote the mental health of students, teachers, and parents in Hong Kong through training and research in mindfulness.

Let your life speak

Guest Speaker Ms Cheung Sze Kuen, Christine, is a Catholic and mindfulness practitioner with twenty years of experience in practicing mindfulness. Being inspired by many great teachers such as Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh and Fr. Chris, Christine is the founder of “Mindful Joyful Parenting” and the columnist of “Mindful Parenting” and “Nonviolent Mindfulness Communication”. She is also a graduate of “Mindfulness Teachers Training Program” at Plum Village Mindfulness Academy and a Center of Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) Certification Candidate. She wrote five books including “Miss Bell Bell Mindfulness Course” and “Plum Village Wake Up Girl”.

“chan in Tea"

Guest Speaker Ms. Wong Miu Yung is the leader of “Chan Meditation Group” and “chan in Tea” group of Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) Hong Kong Centre. She is also a tutor of meditation classes and “chan in tea” workshops. In the past few years, Ms. Wong has been leading 5 workshops of “chan in Tea” at EdUHK. Last year, she was interviewed by Metro Radio promoting “chan in tea” to the public. During the epidemic, she recorded a series of meditation courses for DDM for the public to learn meditation on the Internet.
Objective In the disturbing environment, can we leave a little space for ourselves, listen to our heart, and recognize our true self? “chan in Tea” (藉茶入禪) provides an experience of relaxation and helps calm and settle our body and mind. It also helps rejuvenate our senses, gradually enhancing the awareness of the innermost part of ourselves, and finding a space of tranquility inside.
