Dr Hu Xinyun Annie, Dr Leung Wai Man Vivienne, Dr Lee Hoi Man Sarah, Mr Chui Hin Leung Mike,Professor Lee Chi Kin John and Professor Chiu Ming Ming received an award as a team in the President’s Awards for Outstanding Performance in Knowledge Transfer 2024/25. Congratulations to the team’s outstanding performance and achievements in creating social impacts and sustainability in the community.
The Early Childhood STEM and Maker team has revolutionised STEM education for young learners through innovative frameworks, resources, and professional development programmes.
Under the leadership of Professor Lee and Dr Hu, the team has developed the L-D-M-S framework, which integrates children’s lived experiences (L), their discovery (D) of STEM concepts through exploratory activities, the making of tools or solutions (M), and the sharing (S) of ideas or tools to enrich their communication and collaboration skills.
The award-winning “Make-Play Station”, a multifunctional STEM toolkit that transforms classrooms into dynamic learning hubs, is the significant highlight of their work. Winning award at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, two silver medals at other global invention festivals, and being featured at the InnoCarnival 2023, exemplifies the team’s commitment to hands-on, creative learning.
In future, the team aims to enhance the dynamic learning hubs with transformative pedagogies, and to expand their programmes to the Greater Bay Area, benefiting over 200 teachers and 500 children. These efforts will build a sustainable foundation for global STEM education, inspiring the next generation of innovators.
