In response to the challenges posed by declining birth rates and kindergarten closures, the Department of Early Childhood Education at EdUHK conducted a series of exchange, study visit and student recruitment activities in East China from 26 to 30 October 2026. The delegation was led by Professor Eva Lau Yi-hung, Head of Department, with coordination by Dr Li Jianbin, Associate Head (Community Engagement).
Institutional Exchange
The delegation visited Zhejiang Normal University, Hangzhou Normal University, Nanjing Normal University and Yangzhou University to discuss research collaboration, student exchange opportunities, joint conferences and forums, 0-3 childcare and inclusive education programmes, as well as professional development initiatives. The visits resulted in several new collaboration opportunities.
Study Visits and Research
To further explore the development of childcare curricula and talent cultivation for children aged 0-3, our Department’s the 0-3 Early Childhood Education and Care Professional Development Team engaged in in-depth exchanges with Zhejiang Normal University and Hangzhou Normal University. A key highlight of the study visit was the co-organisation of the inaugural “Hangzhou Normal University – The Education University of Hong Kong Joint Symposium on Infant and Toddler Development and Childcare” with Hangzhou Normal University. At the symposium, Professor Lau and Dr Li chaired the morning academic discussion session. Sharing presentations were also delivered by Dr Pauline Chan Po-lin, Associate Head (Teaching); Dr Jessie Lam Pui-ching, Assistant Head (Programme), and assistant professors, Dr Annie Li Yixun and Dr Hedy Song Huiqi.
Student Recruitment
Programme teams from the Master of Arts in Child and Family Education and the Master of Arts in Inclusive Early Childhood Education visited eight universities in East China to conduct programme promotions, consultations and on-site admission interviews.
This visit strengthened the Department's partnerships with mainland institutions, created new opportunities for collaboration, and further supported ECE's commitment to advancing early childhood education and developing diverse pathways for future education professionals. The Department also extends its sincere thanks to all host institutions for their warm hospitality.
