ECE Department Holds Edinburgh Study Tour to Deepen Family Education and International Perspectives

2026-07-08

For enhancing students’ understanding on family education professionals, the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) organised the study tour “Exploring Early Childhood and Family Education in Scotland – Edinburgh Study Tour” from June 4 to 13, 2026. Led by two lecturers, Dr Carmen Choi Ka-man and Dr Agnes Cheung Chui-yi, and 20 students visited Edinburgh to engage in a journey combining professional learning and cultural exploration.

During the tour, students visited the University of Edinburgh and exchanged ideas with scholars, gaining deeper insights into Scotland’s education system and teaching practices. They also observed local kindergartens, learning about forest education and child-centered approaches inspired by Froebel’s philosophy, which prompted further professional reflection.

Beyond academic exchange, students explored Edinburgh’s Old Town, museums, and historic architecture, experiencing the city’s blend of tradition and modernity. These cultural encounters encouraged them to reflect on how social and cultural contexts shape educational philosophies and learning practices.

ECE Department has long been committed to expanding international learning opportunities. Supported by the Global Learning Enhancement Fund (GLEF) and the Global Experiential Learning Award (GELA), the department has organised multiple overseas study tours this academic year, including visits to Melbourne, Helsinki, and Edinburgh. These initiatives aim to broaden students’ global perspectives and professional development, enabling them to bring valuable insights back to the classroom and transform them into inspiring teaching practices.
