ECE Department Organizes Its First Seminar on Infants and Toddlers Aged 0–3

2026-04-23

Did you know that play can be more than just fun? In fact, play is a magical key that unlocks the brain potential of infants and toddlers aged 0–3!

On 28 March 2026, the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong successfully held the first seminar in its 0–3 Infants and Toddlers Series — “Exploring Play for 0–3-Year-Olds: High-Quality Parent-Child Interaction to Unlock Babies’ Brain Potential”. The event was warmly received by parents and early childhood educators, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere on site.

The department invited Dr. Cheng Yuen Ling Elaine, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong, and Ms. Wong Pui Yi Ada, an experienced playwork training instructor, as the keynote speakers. The two experts vividly explored the essence of sensory play and free play, and shared in depth how these activities stimulate brain potential and promote holistic physical and mental development in infants and toddlers. Beyond explaining the theoretical foundations of play, they also demonstrated practical ways to create safe and autonomous play environments at home, while teaching warm and effective parent-child interaction techniques. These insights help parents easily awaken their infants’ and toddlers’ sensory exploration abilities.

The highlight of the seminar was undoubtedly the joyful moments when participants actively engaged in play themselves! Attendees hands-on created a variety of sensory play and free play materials, experiencing the surprises, discoveries, and pure joy of play from the perspective of infants and toddlers. The entire event was filled with warmth, laughter, and lively interaction.
