Curriculum Launch: Screen-Free Games Foster Computational Thinking in Young Children

United Prime Education has recently published The Children’s Computational Thinking Game Book, which guides young learners to joyfully explore through play. Using a screen-free, game-based learning approach, it gradually cultivates children’s computational thinking skills.

The curriculum is led by Dr. Yang Weipeng, Associate Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. It is designed for children aged 4 to 6, a critical stage for developing logic and creativity. The book integrates characteristics of child development and learning patterns, transforming research findings into practical game-based activities that help children learn through play and think through exploration.

Author Biography: Dr. Yang is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. He also serves as Associate Assistant Dean of the Academy of Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Brain and Child Research. His academic achievements have gained international recognition, being listed among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University. His research focuses on children’s intelligent education, covering computational thinking, programming games, educational robotics, and AI literacy. Dr. Yang has led major research projects such as the Hong Kong Early Career Scheme and General Research Fund. In academic service, he has held roles as editor-in-chief, associate editor, and editorial board member of multiple international journals, and has received the President’s Award from The Education University of Hong Kong.
