The Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE) proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of two students at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Universities Student Innovative Teaching (GHMUSIT) Competition. This initiative aims to encourage pre-service teachers to innovate in their teaching methods. This year, participants showcased innovative teaching plans that effectively integrated global citizenship education into the K-12 curriculum.
In a competitive environment, teams from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) demonstrated outstanding creativity and exemplary teamwork, while the team from the ECE Department and their project, "Our Global Travel Card", won the Best Lesson Plan Award, highlighting the integration of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's global citizenship education concept.
Ms Mavis Poon Man-ching, a Year 4 student of BEd(ECE) programme, expressed her desire to challenge herself and decided to join the competition, teaming up with an alumnus from the same programme Ms Cheung Pik-hoi. She is particularly interested in incorporating technology into ECE and aims to apply what she has learned in practical ways in this competition. Two students joined our ECE course named Innovative Use of Technologies in the Early Years, and applied the concepts and the technology in preparing for the competition. The student team was supported by ECE colleague Assistant Professor Dr Annie Hu Xinyun from the ECE Department and the Global Research Institute for Finnish, European, and Global South Education at EdUHK.
Their project features famous landmarks from the seven continents, allowing children to explore the world and learn about different cultures right in the classroom. Children can view these landmarks using virtual reality technology.
They offered an advice to peers who are interested in similar competitions: “Pay close attention to school emails for information, engage in lessons, and connect with teachers to gain opportunities to participate.”
Finally, the department sincerely congratulates all participants on their remarkable achievements and extend special congratulations to all graduates. We look forward to seeing everyone continue to shine in their educational journeys.
