ECE Colleague Wins the Award for Excellent Field Experience Supervision in Semester 2, 2024/25

2025-11-25

We are pleased to announce that Dr Vanessa Pang Hiu-kwan, Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE), has won the Award for Excellent Field Experience (FE) Supervision offered by the School Partnership and Field Experience Office (SPFEO) for Semester 2, 2024/25.

Field Experience, where student teachers are placed in kindergartens to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in an actual classroom - is a core component of pre-service teacher education programmes at the ECE Department, and also EdUHK. Throughout their placement, FE supervisors conduct workshops, site visits, and post-lesson conferences to foster student teachers’ professional growth.

Dr Pang expressed her gratitude for the award and the strong support from the ECE Department, SPFEO, and the Centre for Learning, Teaching, and Technology (LTTC). She remarked, “It is a privilege to work with our student teachers and partner schools, and I am glad that my supervision has had a positive impact of their practicum experience.”

Dr Pang shared that she encourages her students to view their field attachment as an ongoing professional learning journey. To support this, she communicates regularly with her students, pays close attention to their individual needs and works with them to address challenges that arise during their placement.

She also emphasised the importance of cultivating self-reflection and confidence in the classroom. She said, “I help them to reflect on their teaching practices so that they are able to see their progress and develop into critically reflective and confident teachers.”
