A Staff Professional Workshop on “Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) and Note-taking Strategies” conducted by Miss Jannie Tsang and Miss Leung Kit Yan of Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) was held on 30 June, 2022 for approximately 50 teachers of C.C.C. Hoh Fuk Tong Primary School before formulating the 3-year school development plan of the next cycle.
The two-and-a half hour workshop covered the rationale and the three major orientations of SRL as well as the various strategies required at the different stages of SRL development process, including note-taking skills, graphic organisers for organizing information, and metacognitive learning strategies. Authentic cases illustrating how the SRL components and the relevant learning strategies could be integrated in the lesson design of the four core subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, and General Studies) had been discussed. After the theory input and discussion, the teachers worked in groups according to their subjects to design a lesson with SRL elements and a couple of the learning strategies which they hoped to develop in their students. The sharing of their instructional designs from the teachers and comments from their peers as well as those from the speakers had provided a platform for professional exchanges in refining their lesson designs to align with the major concern of the school.
