As part of its ongoing efforts to promote internationalisation and cultural diversity, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held an inauguration ceremony today (9 November) to celebrate its partnership with France Médias Monde, the media group in charge of French international broadcasting services.

Officiating at the ceremony were Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of EdUHK; Mr Eric Berti, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau; and Mr Brice Bertrand, Distribution Director for the Asia Pacific and America at France Médias Monde. After delivering their speeches, the participants held a toast to the future of the partnership.

Among others initiatives, France Médias Monde has donated two screens to be installed on the EdUHK Tai Po campus, along with access to its French- and English-language programmes. Some programme content will also be made available to teachers for use in the classroom and to students for cultural exposure and to facilitate self-learning.

Commenting on the partnership, Professor Cheung said that it “symbolises the efforts of the University to further internationalise its campus and offer a multicultural and multilingual environment to its students. We trust that this is only a first step and we look forward to further collaboration with media companies”.

French is currently offered by EdUHK as an elective course and is one of the modern languages most sought after by students.

EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung says the collaboration symbolises the efforts of the University to further internationalise its campus and offer a multicultural and multilingual environment to its students.
