Dr Yoko Mochizuki is Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). She has secondary affiliation with the Academy of Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures, an interdisciplinary research and innovation institute established by the EdUHK in 2023. She is also a member of the Working Team of the Hong Kong UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre at EdUHK.
Dr Mochizuki is an internationally recognized expert in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), now enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Target 4.7. She holds a PhD, with distinction, in Comparative and International Education, with a disciplinary specialization in sociology, from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Columbia University (New York, USA). In addition to having coordinated various UNESCO publications on transformative education for sustainability and global citizenship, she has published widely in distinguished international journals and with leading publishing houses on sustainability competencies, higher education for sustainable development, climate change education, international educational cooperation, and global governance of education.
Previously, she was Head of Policy at UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) in New Delhi, India. Prior to that, she served as Programme Specialist for ESD and Climate Change at UNESCO Paris, and ESD Specialist at the United Nations University-Institute for Advanced Studies of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).
