SSPS BA(PF) Summer Programme 2026 – Connect Personal Finance to Daily Life
The SSPS BA(PF) Summer Programme 2026, titled “The Finance Lab: Real-World Skills for Tomorrow’s Financial Professionals”, was successfully organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies from 3 to 5 July 2026. This 3-day programme welcomed 33 S4 – S6 local secondary school students interested in business, accounting, finance and related study pathways. Through experiential activities, institutional exposure and sharing sessions, participants connected personal finance concepts with everyday decision-making, experienced university life, as well as developed a better understanding of possible study and career pathways.
Experiencing Personal Finance Through Team Challenges
The programme began with a warm welcome by Dr Jason YI and sharing by Registry regarding the JUPAS admission. Followed by 2 interactive lectures by Dr Eric LAW & Dr Ray LEE, participants played the Financial Quest @ EdUHK, an interactive campus hunt in which they worked in teams to complete challenges and earn campus dollars. Participants had to manage their time and resources, consider different spending priorities, and make decisions on common university-life expenses. The activity enabled participates to apply personal finance concepts while developing teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills.
Participants also joined in the Cashflow Board Game, which introduced the relationships between income, expenditure, assets, liabilities and financial planning through simulation. The game encouraged them to consider risk, opportunity and the possible long-term consequences of their financial decisions. The group reflections showed that both the campus hunt and cashflow board game were among the most memorable activities of the programme.

Exploring Hong Kong’s Financial Sector
Participants visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority on the second day, where they gained first-hand exposure to Hong Kong’s monetary and financial systems. The visit enabled them to connect finance-related knowledge with the work of a key financial institution and broaden their understanding beyond classroom learning.
Throughout the programme, students also attended several sharing sessions conducted by distinguished speaker Mr Marshall JEN and two MA(PF) graduates. The speakers shared insights into macroeconomic trends, market and personal finance strategies, professional development, and their day-to-day work in the financial sector. Through their practical experiences and career journeys, students gained a better understanding of the financial industry and the knowledge and skills required for related career pathways.

Building Connections and Experiencing University Life
The residential programme gave participants the opportunity to experience both campus and student hall life at EdUHK. Through group activities and interactions with peers from different schools, participants gained a better understanding of university life, developed their teamwork and communication skills, and built new connections.
One participant reflected:
“This summer camp helped me learn more about personal finance from new perspectives, make new friends and experience university hall life.”
Student helpers also played an important role throughout the programme by facilitating group activities, supporting participants during their stay and sharing their own university experiences.

Reflecting on a Meaningful 3-day Journey
The programme concluded with a reflection session. Through the hashtag activity and group sharing, participants revisited their most memorable moments, consolidated their learning and reflected on their personal growth and future directions.
Another participant shared:
“We laughed and worked seriously together. It made me feel that we had become a real team and genuine friends. I also gained valuable insights from the speakers about emerging market trends.”
By combining financial education, experiential learning, institutional exposure, peer interaction and reflection, the SSPS BA(PF) Summer Programme connected personal finance with real-life decision-making and provided participants with a meaningful introduction to university learning. More importantly, the programme encouraged participants to look beyond the classroom, explore future possibilities, and take their first steps towards becoming confident and financially informed young adults.

SSPS extends its sincere appreciation to the BA(PF) Programme Teaching Team, colleagues from the Registry, Mr Marshall JEN, MA(PF) graduates and student helpers for their valuable contributions to the successful delivery of the programme. Their collective support made the 3-day experience both educational and memorable for the participants.
