We extend our warmest congratulations to Dr YUM Yen Na, Cherry, our Acting Head of Department of Special Education and Counselling (SEC) at EdUHK, who has been awarded HK$957,800 by the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) to support the project, "Reducing Smartphone Overuse for Adolescents with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial." As the principal investigator, Dr YUM will collaborate with project’s co-investigators Prof LEUNG Chi Hung and Dr LI Xiangfei from SEC at EdUHK, along with Dr Kean POON from the University of New South Wales.
The research aims to address adolescents aged 12 to 17 in Hong Kong who have been clinically diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The initiative seeks to implement a 12-week behavioral intervention that utilizes built-in smartphone features to promote healthier usage habits among this population.
The research will employ neurophysiological assessments to determine if reducing smartphone overuse can alleviate ADHD symptoms, as well as to examine effective strategies for managing smartphone usage within the target demographic.
The project is scheduled to run from August 2025 to April 2028. For more information or inquiries, please contact Dr YUM at yyum@eduhk.hk.
We would like to once again extend our congratulations to Dr Cherry YUM and her team for their invaluable contributions to research.
