Abstract

For decades, Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENSOs) have played a crucial role in the achievement of inclusive education implementation in Hong Kong. Special Education Needs Support Teachers (SENSTs), one of the main supportive measures from EDB, are now significant in aiding SENCOs in inclusive teaching and students' behavioral and emotional management in small group settings to lessen their voluminous workload. In this presentation, Dr Chim discussed the roles of SENSTs across the five domains, including inclusion management, L&T, small groups, one-to-one support as well as parents’ engagement. The inclusion management refers to how SENSTs could position themselves in the SENCOs team. The L&T directs to what inclusive teaching strategies SENSTs could utilize in their own SEN teaching setting. The small group setting relates to the specific activities which SENSTs could adopt in emotional and behavioral management groups. The one-to-one support presents the SENSTs’ customization of the Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) through electronic platforms. Additionally, the parents’ engagement could refer to how SENSTs assist the parents in participating the inclusive planning and practices in catering for diversities.
