The Mass Check-out Donation & Giveaway Campaign was an initiative designed to promote sustainability during student move-outs. Each year, we set up booths on campus and in hostels to facilitate the recycling of items that students no longer needed. These items—ranging from personal cleaning products and unopened non-frozen food to small furniture, electrical appliances, kitchenware, clothing, bedding, and stationery—were collected for redistribution to students and staff on campus, future residents, local organisations in need, or responsible recycling. This effort helped reduce waste and supported a greener community, making a positive impact together!

From 1 June to 6 June 2025, our participants embarked on a transformative journey to Bohol, the Philippines. This initiative combined scuba diving certification with a vital bay cleaning project, enabling direct engagement in marine conservation efforts. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Life Below Water (SDG 14), the programme allowed participants to explore the beauty of marine ecosystems while actively contributing to their protection. Through hands-on efforts and collaboration with local communities, students deepened their commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, making a lasting impact on both the environment and themselves.

In February, the Jockey Club Student Quarters Tutorial Team organised the JC Green Garden Planting event on the ground floor of JCSQ. Participants learned essential planting skills while contributing to our campus environment. This initiative, part of the Hall Life Education (HLE), promotes sustainability and biodiversity within the student community.

Additionally, participants had the opportunity to share their thoughts on hostel gardening, fostering a sense of collaboration and community spirit. Together, we are cultivating not only plants but also a commitment to eco-friendly practices and experiential learning.

Participants enjoyed an immersive experience exploring local ecosystems and learning about sustainable practices. The programme also included hands-on planting activities, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with nature. This initiative reflects our heartfelt commitment to nurturing a deeper connection with nature and promoting a more sustainable way of living.

Northcote Hall Floor Recycling Competition

As part of our Wellness Series—Eco-friendly Activities, the "Floor Recycling Competition" was held on 10 and 17 October 2024 across all floors of Northcote Hall. Residents were encouraged to place recyclable items in the designated bins on their floors, while Student Hall Tutors assisted by weighing the collected recyclables.

The excitement culminated in the recognition of the floor with the highest total weight of recyclables as the champion, along with awards for the first and second runners-up! This friendly competition not only promoted recycling habits but also strengthened community spirit through a shared commitment to environmental care.

On 6 April 2024, Grantham Hall, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Department and Cleanup Shorelines, hosted the Lung Mei Beach Cleanup Day. This meaningful event brought together community members to clean the shorelines of Lung Mei Beach while providing valuable educational experiences.

Participants engaged in hands-on activities that deepened their understanding of marine ecosystems and the threats posed by pollution. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, attendees learned about the impact of waste on marine life and the importance of responsible waste management.

This initiative not only beautified the beach but also empowered individuals to become advocates for environmental protection and sustainable practices in their daily lives. Together, we are fostering a culture of stewardship for our precious coastal environments.
