I was an Investment Promotion intern working under the HKETO in Singapore. My duties included administrative work, meeting with clients and organizing and participating in events. My colleagues were patient and kind and gave me a lot of guidance on tasks and encouraged me to try new things and explore my new environment. The greatest challenge was using English as the main form of communication, but luckily everybody that I encountered was very patient with me. I also had the opportunity of meeting with potential clients at networking events and at a public forum event that I attended. These were excellent experiences for me.
The internship helped me develop my core competencies. For example, by working with other interns we organized two events from start to finish, which enhanced my interpersonal skills, cooperation and teamwork. Furthermore I had always expected that I would become a teacher, however due to this internship I was exposed to business related events (like the AVCJ Forum and start-up companies’ exhibition). This has led me to consider non-education related employment in the future.
Through this internship I have lived in a new place alone for the first time and this has helped me grow up to be a more independent person.
