Programme Overview

The Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technology [MSc(AI&EdTech)] Programme provide participants with foundational knowledge in artificial intelligence and educational technology, and develop participants' practical skills and capabilities in applying artificial intelligence and educational technology to solve real world problems with ethical awareness.

The programme also equip participants with pedagogical frameworks, principles and approaches leveraged by artificial intelligence and educational technology for innovative curricular design and instruction, and empower participants to investigate and evaluate educational proposals using emerging technology for authentic classroom problem-solving or create and test artificial intelligence prototypes for solving real world problems. The programme is designed to prepare graduates for a wide range of career opportunities in AI and educational technology related fields in schools, tertiary education, government and corporate sectors.

Programme Structure and Curriculum

The programme comprises 24 credit points (cps). Each course is worth 3 cps. Students normally take one year (Full-time) to complete the programme. Classes in the same or different semester(s) may be held in the daytime/evening on weekdays and/or Saturdays at the Tai Po Campus, Tseung Kwan O Study Centre, West Kowloon Study Centres, Kowloon Tong Satellite Study Centre and/or North Point Study Centres and/or other locations as decided by the University.

Coding and Computational Thinking (INT6064)

編程與計算思維 

This course begins with a review of the knowledge and skills of computational thinking and its role in developing advanced and future technology. The important role of coding and computational thinking as an integral part of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and the rationale behind will be critically examined.

本課程首先梳理計算思維的相關知識與技能,及其在前衛科技和未來技術發展中的作用;深入剖析程式設計與計算思維做為科學、技術、工程與數學(STEM)教育核心組成部分的重要價值及背後的理論依據。

 

Artificial Intelligence in Education (INT6065)

教育中的人工智能

This course aims to equip students with the foundational and advanced knowledge of artificial intelligence coupled with an emphasis on its principles and practices in the educational setting. Ethical and social issues in artificial intelligence applications and development will be discussed.

 

本科目旨在為學生提供人工智能的基礎與進階知識,並強調其在教育情境中的原理與實踐。科目也提供學生機會,分析人工智能對教育的影響,並探討其相關的倫理與社會議題。

Design of Innovative Learning Environments with Technology (INT6066)

創新科技與學習環境設計

This course provides an overview of instructional design frameworks, principles and pedagogical models supported by current and emerging technologies. It also explores and evaluates innovative pedagogical designs with technologies consistent with social constructivist principles and frameworks to optimise learning.

本課程系統整理了以尖端科技為基礎的教學設計架構、核心原則及教學模型,深入解析並評估了符合社會建構主義理論的創新教學方案,協助實現學習效果最大化。

 

Research Methods and Inquiry (INT6067)

研究方法與探究

This course aims to develop students’ understanding of the principles of research design and methods in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and educational technology. It is designed to enable students to develop their own research proposal to investigate empirical issues in AI and educational technology with the key components of literature review, statement of problems, and research design with appropriate methods.

本課程旨在幫助學生深入理解人工智能與教育技術領域的研究設計原理與方法。通過課程學習,學生將能夠識別該領域的關鍵實踐問題,並綜合運用所學知識,設計出包含文獻綜述、問題陳述及具體研究方法在內的完整研究方案。

Neural Networks and Deep Learning (INT6068)

神經網絡與深度學習 

This course provides students with the foundations of artificial neural networks, followed by the theories, principles and practices for building Deep Artificial Neural Networks (i.e. Deep Learning) to solve real-world problems based on empirical data.

本學科為學生提供人工神經網絡的基礎知識,隨後介紹構建深度人工神經網絡(即深度學習)的理論、原則和實踐,以基於經驗數據解決現實世界的問題。

This course aims to provide students with a solid foundation in the IoT, including the components, tools, and analysis by teaching the concepts behind the IoT and a glimpse of real-world applications.

本科目旨在為學生提供堅實的物聯網基礎,涵蓋其組成部分、工具及分析方法,並透過講授相關概念及介紹現實世界應用,讓學生對物聯網有整體掌握。

 

Creative Multimedia and Design (INT6110) 

創意多媒體與設計

This course critically reviews research on creative multimedia and design within design and technology domains. Contents like multimedia production, 2D and 3D animation design, computer graphics, and visualization techniques for data applications will be covered in the course.

 

本課程針對設計與科技領域中創意多媒體與設計的研究進行批判性回顧。課程內容涵蓋多媒體製作、二維和三維動畫設計、電腦圖形學以及數據應用的視覺化技術等。

 

Metaverse in Education and Society (INT6111) 

教育與社會中的元宇宙

This course begins with a review of the major components in the infrastructure of the metaverse, namely: internet infrastructure (e.g., 5G/6G networking, real-time graphics), spatial computing (e.g., 3D mapping, VR/AR), creator economy (e.g., blockchain, non-fungible tokens) and immersive experiences (e.g., socializing, games, education).

本課程首先回顧元宇宙基礎設施的主要組成部分,包括:網絡基礎建設(如 5G/6G 網絡、即時圖像處理)、空間運算(如三維地圖、虛擬實境/擴增實境)、創作者經濟(如區塊鏈、非同質化代幣)以及沉浸式體驗(如社交、遊戲及教育)。

 

Mobile Applications Design and Development (INT6112)

移動應用程式設計與開發

This course introduces students to important concepts and aspects in mobile application development. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to develop mobile applications.

本課程向學生介紹移動應用開發中的重要概念和觀念,旨在使學生掌握開發移動應用的知識和技能。

Applied Programming with Python (INT6181)

應用Python程式設計 

This course aims to provide students with the opportunity to renew and expand their understanding of Python programming through practical coding exercises and projects. In this course, students will enhance their programming skills by learning advanced programming techniques.

本科目旨在透過編程練習與專案的實務,讓學生更新並擴展對Python程式設計概念的理解。學生將學習進階編程技巧。

Cyber Security and its Application in Education (INT6182)

網絡安全與教育中的應用

This course will explore key cyber security concepts such as cryptographic hash function, digital signature, authentication, public key infrastructure, firewall, intrusion detection, access control, and relevant applications in cyber security education.

本科目將探討網絡安全的關鍵概念,包括密碼雜湊函數、數字簽名、身份驗證、公鑰基礎設施、防火牆、入侵檢測、存取控制等,以及它們在網絡安全教育中的相關應用。

Independent Project (INT6071)

獨立專題研究

This course provides students with opportunities to apply and extend their knowledge and skills developed in the programme to their own chosen area of specialism related to artificial intelligence (AI) and educational technology.

本課程旨在讓學生將課程中所培養的知識與技能,應用並延伸至其自選的、與人工智能(AI)及教育科技相關的專業範疇。

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction is Chinese (mainly Putonghua).

Entrance Requirements

1.    Applicants should normally hold a recognised Bachelor's degree in educational technology, statistics, computer science and engineering related disciplines, or other equivalent qualifications.
2.    Applicants are required to have prior programming knowledge and skills.
3.    Applicants should demonstrate a high level of proficiency in spoken and written Chinese. If applicants’ native language is not Chinese and they have not obtained a degree with Chinese as the medium of instruction, they must pass the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Level 6, or possess equivalent abilities.

Tuition Fee

This programme is offered on a self-financed basis. The tuition fee is HK$230,500 the whole programme for 2027/28 intake. Tuition fees paid are normally not refundable or transferable.
