HKIEd has been embracing the concept of whole-person development as one of its missions. The local education reforms have far-reaching implications for the teaching profession. Teachers are expected to excel in many areas, including the ability to help students advance their academic performance as well as their personal growth. The "Quality Teacher Development Award Scheme", organised annually by the Institute, encourages student teachers to participate in activities that facilitate whole-person development, so that they will be better prepared for their future teaching career. Since being established in 1999, a total of 4,644 students have participated in the Scheme. In order to encourage participation and
commend excellence, outstanding students may gain bronze, silver, gold
or platinum awards. To win the much-coveted Platinum Award, which is
limited to five each year, candidates must have obtained gold awards
in any two years and be further selected by an adjudication panel. The
Joy of Learning talked to some of the Platinum Award winners who were
pleased to share their views on learning and teaching. |
Participating in the adjudication work of the Scheme really inspires and excites me. Students show a great motivation and aspiration to grow and develop both personally and professionally, from being who they are to becoming more professional, caring and responsible teachers. The Quality Teacher Development Scheme is successful and I believe those participating will be able to be outstanding teachers of tomorrow. |
